Classics Club to Present Annual ‘Homerathon’

The University of Texas at Arlington and the Classics Club are sponsoring the annual “Homerathon” on Wednesday, April 28, on the mall of the E.H. Hereford University Center.

The opening “Invocation to the Muse” begins at 7 a.m.  The recitation, primarily in English translation, will continue until 10:30 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public. Readers/performers are needed and participants may sign up online. Texts in English translation will be provided, and will be available prior to the event in the office of the Philosophy and Humanities Department, Carlisle Hall, Room 305. Recitation in Greek and other ancient languages is encouraged.

“The Odyssey,” a timeless story of one man’s quest to return home, was composed in Greek around 700 B.C.
