Art Major Wins Dallas Museum Award

Undergraduate Courtney Brown was recently named one of seven winners of the 2010 Clare Hart DeGolyer Memorial Fund Award by the Dallas Museum of Art.

Brown, who is pursuing a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in the Art and Art History Department, is currently working on pieces that reflect the relationship between ancient Native American rituals and contemporary art making. She said she will use the award funds to finance a week-long performance project exploring the Dakota Sioux’s medicine wheel rituals.

The DeGolyer Memorial Fund is awarded to artists between 15 and 25 years of age who reside in Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Arizona or Colorado. That fund and the Arch and Anne Giles Kimbrough Fund have awarded nearly $500,000 to artists since 1980.
