Theatre Arts Alumni Celebrate Thurber in SceneShop Series

Several University of Texas at Arlington Theatre Arts alumni will participate in next week’s SceneShop Reading Series. The performances will be held on campus and at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth and feature the works of humorist James Thurber.

The SceneShop ensemble includes UTA alumni Steven McGaw, Natalie Gaupp and Nicholas Irion, as well as Melodee Halbach, Peggy Bott Kirby, and James Ekstrom. The hour-long program will include excerpts from Thurber’s “The Night The Ghost Got In,” “Snapshot of a Dog,” “The Figgerin’ of Aunt Wilma,” and “Sex Ex Machina,” as well as the complete pieces “The Bear Who Could Let It Alone” and “The Evening’s at Seven.”

Performances will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 17, in Room 143 of the Fine Arts Building on the UTA campus and at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 19, in the Modern Art Museum’s auditorium. Both presentations are free to the public and more information is available at (817) 899-8602.
