Thursday marks the 200th anniversary of Mexico’s Independence from Spain, and the Center of Mexican American Studies and the Association of Mexican American Students plan to celebrate in style.
At 7 p.m., the two groups will host UT Arlington students and faculty at the Rosebud Theater in the University Center for an event that will include music, dance, food and a traditional “grito,” or call to independence, competition.
“Our primary purpose is to celebrate the day,” said Dr. Susan Gonzales Baker, Director of CMAS. “Events like the 16th of September celebration serve as a window into the wider array of activities and services CMAS makes available.”
