Film director and producer John Valadez will present his film “The Longoria Affair” on Thursday, Oct. 14, at 12:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Building, Room 148. The screening is sponsored by the Department of Political Science, the Center for Mexican American Studies and the College of Liberal Arts.
The film examines racial tensions in South Texas after a Three Rivers funeral home refused to hold a wake for Felix Longoria, a decorated Mexican American soldier killed during World War II. Sixty years later, a drive to honor the veteran’s memory reopens old wounds.
Valadez has directed and produced award-winning films for the past 16 years. He is a founding member of the National Association of Latino Independent Producers and a number of his documentaries have aired on PBS and CNN.
