The UT Arlington Wind Symphony presents a preview of its upcoming performance at the Texas Music Educators Association Convention at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, in Irons Recital Hall at the Fine Arts Building.
Conducted by Douglas Stotter, the Wind Symphony is one of three college/university bands invited to perform at the TMEA convention Thursday, Feb. 9, in San Antonio.
Tuesday’s program is a “family tree” of important composers of band music spanning almost 100 years.
Suite in E-flat by Gustav Holst inspired many British composers. Ceremonial was written by Yale professor Bernard Rands in 1993. Rands’ student Michael Daugherty composed Lost Vegas in 2011. Daugherty’s student Joel Puckett wrote Avelynn’s Lullaby last year.
Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students. Tickets are available online through the Department of Music.
