Liberal Arts Students Shine at ACES

Several students from the College of Liberal Arts presented research papers and posters last Thursday at the Annual Celebration of Excellence by Students (ACES) in the E.H. Hereford University Center.

ACES showcases graduate and undergraduate scholarly activity in an all-day conference, offering awards to top presenters. This year’s event was capped with a keynote address from former Florida governor Jeb Bush.

At the event’s awards ceremony, Dr. Ken Roemer (English) was honored with the Graduate Dean’s Outstanding Doctoral Student Mentor Award. Other award winners include:

  • Women’s and Gender Studies Student Excellence Awards
    • Graduate: Mylynka Kilgore Cardona (History)
    • Undergraduate: Katelyn James (English) and Amy Tuttle (English)
  • Undergraduate Poster Presentation
    • Honorable Mention: Felicia Wallace (Linguistics)
  • Undergraduate Afternoon Oral Presentation
    • Graduate Dean’s Award: Nicolas Miranda (Music)
  • Graduate Poster Presentation
    • Provost’s Poster Award: Lori McLain Pierce (Linguistics)
  • Graduate Afternoon Oral Presentation
    • Honorable Mention: James Dunning (Communication)

More than 200 UT Arlington students participated in the event. Those representing Liberal Arts included:
