UTA News en Español has had a busy fall, but wrapped up the semester by producing its final semester’s newscast Dec 5.
For a few of the students, the newscast was their final hurrah here at UT Arlington: Executive producer and main anchor Raul Solis, sport producer and anchor Maria Martinez, and reporter Juan Balderrrama graduate this month.
“These students leave behind a legacy of outstanding work and dedication, strengthening our broadcast program in the Department of Communication,” offered broadcast lecturer Julian Rodriguez.
Under the leadership of Solis, the Spanish-language newscast increased multiplatform presence and ratings, Rodriguez noted.
“His creative initiatives improved the face of the newscast and the quality of the content shared on our weekly news program,” he said.
Maria Martinez is planning to pursue a graduate degree in the Department of Communication.
“Although Maria will stay on campus and in our department, she decided to focus on her graduate classes,” Rodriguez said.
While working on News en Español, Juan Balderrama specialized in news and seasonal reporting. “Juan’s arduous work provided stability to UTA News en Español; his reports were shared every week during our show,” Rodriguez offered.
“These students have helped make UTA News en Español one of the leading university Spanish-language television newscasts in Texas,” he added. “Every semester a new generation joins our ranks and leaves our classrooms. No one member is responsible for our success as UTA News en Español is the sum of its parts.
