A Russian crime comedy, a religious drama and a classical musical are just some of the highlights for the Maverick Theatre Company’s 2013-2014 season.
The new production schedule includes:
- “The Government Inspector” (Oct. 18-19, 34-27): Directed by Andrew Gaupp (Professor), the play – written by Nikolai Gogol and adapted by Jeffrey Hatcher – follows a Russian village in panic as an undercover government inspector visits.
- “As It Is In Heaven” (Nov. 15-16, 21-24): Written by Arlene Hutton, this drama is set in 1883 and centers on a newcomer in a Kentucky religious community who claims to receive special “gifts” from above. It is directed by Dr. Anne Healey (Assistant Professor).
- “The Magic Flute” (Feb. 21, 23, 28 & March 2): Directed by Dr. Soo Hong Kim (Associate Professor of Music), this musical includes selections from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and tells the story of a heroic prince, armed with a magic flute and joined by a flamboyant bird catcher, who travels to exotic lands to rescue a stolen princess.
- MavPlays (April 15-27): This two-week festival features original plays, student-directed one-acts, and faculty performances.
MTC, an offshoot of the Department of Theatre Arts, will also produce the Improv Flight 12 shows (Sept. 20-21 and Jan. 31-Feb. 1) and two dance concerts (Dec. 6-7 and May 2-3).
