The Women’s and Gender Studies Program will host “Lunafest: Short Films By, For, About Women” for a third consecutive year. The film festival will be held Thursday, Oct. 17, at 7 p.m. in the Mavericks Activities Center.
“Lunafest” is a festival of nine short films selected from across the world. The films range from animation to fictional drama, and cover topics such as women’s health, motherhood, body image, aging, cultural diversity and breaking barriers.
The Women’s & Gender Studies Program supports student filmmakers at the UT Arlington by screening one additional short film, made by a UTA student. This year, student filmmaker Iris Lopez will screen her short film “Cielo Lindo.”
“Lunafest” is also a fundraiser and proceeds support the Breast Cancer Fund and the UTA Women’s & Gender Studies Program. To date, the film festival has raised more than $556,000 for breast cancer research and more than $1,000,000 for other women’s non-profit organizations.
Tickets for “Lunafest” are $5 for students and $10 for faculty, staff and the public, and are available online. Tickets may also be purchased for cash only at the door.
