CAAS Hosts Second ‘Issues’ Conference

The Center for African American Studies‘ second annual conference “Critical Issues in Black Studies: Race in Context” is Friday-Saturday, Feb. 21-22, with events at the Maverick Activities Center, E.H. Hereford University Center, and Globe Life Park.

Assistant Professor Krystal K. Beamon (Sociology) will deliver the keynote speech Friday. A reception and Open Mic Night featuring Derek “Fonzworth Bentley” Watkins follows.

Saturday’s events include a luncheon address by Molefi Kete Asante, professor of African American Studies at Temple University, followed by a community research panel. A screening of “The Contradictions of Fair Hope” starts at 6 p.m. Saturday at Globe Life Park with a discussion by the film’s director and co-producer, Rockell Metcalf.
