MAVPLAYS 2017 spotlights two student directed plays and a new work by one of our Playwrights-in-Residence during a repertory two-week run of performances. This year’s festival features the award-winning play SOME OF THESE DAYS written and directed by Dr. Natalie Gaupp. SOME OF THESE DAYS is set in Miami’s Art Deco District in the 1980s and centers on the characters Courtenay Dees and Jack Fornett, and two unresolved relationships from their days when Big Band music was king. Through a linear progression of scenes in the 1940s, staggered between scenes in the 1980s, the story of Courtenay’s music, racial inequality and unrequited love surfaces. Recollections of an era gone by and a one-on-one modern day meeting with Jack, combine to enable Courtenay to slowly cultivate a new knowledge of himself…a knowledge which braces him to move on from a place in which he once put his music. Performances for SOME OF THESE DAYS are April 13, 15, 21, and 23 at 8:00 p.m. ENDGAME by Samuel Beckett will be directed by Kevin Duran and Ashley Peaks. TOO MUCH LIGHT MAKES THE BABY GO BLIND was created by Greg Allen and will be directed by Fate Richey. Performances for ENDGAME and TOO MUCH LIGHT MAKES THE BABY GO BLIND are April 14, 20, and 22 at 8:00 p.m. MAVPLAYS 2017 is presented at 502 S.
