Dr. Daniel Sledge’s article “Linking Public Health and Individual Medicine: The Health Policy Approach of Surgeon General Thomas Parran” was selected as one of the Best Papers of the Year for the 2017 AJPH Editor’s Choice Awards. Dr. Sledge has been with UT Arlington’s Department of Political Science, where he is an associate professor, since 2010. Sledge has published several works on health policy, including his recent book, Health Divided: Public Health and Individual Medicine in the Making of the Modern American State.
The AJPH (American Journal of Public Health) is a national public health journal dedicated to showcasing original work in research, research methods, and program evaluation related to public health. The Best Paper of the Year award recognizes a published paper that “substantially contributes” to the knowledge and understanding of a significant health issue.
The AJPH describes Dr. Sledge’s work, which was originally published in April 2017 as “thoroughly documented, persuasively argued, and very effectively written.”
